Considerations for Learning the Piano Online

by Daniel H Park
There's a lot to consider when you are trying to learn to play piano online. The first thing you should ask yourself is if you wouldn't be better off with a teacher. If you don't have the time or the money to get a teacher, then perhaps trying to learn online will be a good decision for you. Having a teacher is a tremendous benefit, however, so if you have the time and can afford one, definitely get a teacher in addition to any kind of online learning that you may want to do. Foregoing having a private teacher, you won't have as much personal attention as you could otherwise. At the same time, by learning piano online, you will save a lot of money and you can potentially learn the instrument much more quickly. Here is a good step-by-step process to consider when learning how to play piano online. This isn't meant to be all-encompassing advice, but it should be helpful as you get started with the process.
Figure Out What Your Goals Are
You should ask yourself what your objectives are before you get started. Depending on the answer to these questions, you might want to choose one program over another. For example, if you just want to learn popular music, you will want to use a different program than if you want to learn jazz music or some sort of improvisation. Make sure you know exactly what you want to get out of it before you get started. If you don't do the right research, it will be easy for you to pick a bad program, lose motivation, and ultimately stop learning the instrument. Avoid doing this at all costs.
Find the Best Fitting Program For You
Do a little research and determine which program you think is the best for you. Just make sure the program is high quality, highly-rated, and tailored to your objectives. You can read several review sites that will provide an in-depth analysis of each of the major options you'll have available. With the amount of information that is available regarding these programs, you should be able to make a highly intelligent decision.
Stay Focused and Disciplined
Consistency is the best way to get better at the piano. Make sure you can stay focused and disciplined or you might not improve very much. It is much better to spend 30 minutes a day, 6 days a week practicing versus practicing 5 hours a day once a week. Your brain needs that level of consistency in order to improve the best.
Re-watch Videos Where you aren't Totally Clear
If you feel that you have not grasped something fully, you should re-watch the video to make sure you do. It's just not worth continuing if you aren't comfortable with the prior material. Leave nothing to chance and re-watch videos where you don't feel totally comfortable with the material you just learned. Learning the piano well is a case of building on what you have learned previously. With that in mind, make sure you understand everything well before you move on to more advanced material.
